Every weekday morning, U.S. Hispanics wake up alongside Karla Martinez, watching her on Univision’s morning show “Despierta America,” – the highest rated Spanish morning show in the United States. Karla, who is currently the spokesperson for Colgate, is one of the most beloved and respected professionals in the Hispanic community. Since joining the morning show’s hosting team in December 2006, Martinez has co-hosted numerous Univision specials, including “La Boda Real” (“The Royal Wedding”), and has participated in several public service campaigns. Raised in Texas, where she moved to as a young girl, Karla began her career in television as a reporter for KINT-Channel 26 in Texas, while at the same time working on her degree in Communications from the University of Texas. In 1995, she began working for Univision serving as the El Paso correspondent for the network newscast “Noticiero Univision” and the popular news show, “Primer Impacto.” She was also a reporter for the network’s top entertainment news show, “El Gordo y la Flaca,” and became host of Univision’s popular youth-oriented lifestyle program, “Control,” for five years. Karla has been honored as one of People en Español’s “50 Most Beautiful,” and has been recognized for her career success with the coveted “TVyNovelas Award” for “Best Host” in 2015. Her warm personality has led her to become the spokesperson for prestigious brands such as Johnson and Johnson, General Mills, Aveeno Baby, Got Milk?, and Cablevision. She is also the author of “El Poder de una Sonrisa” (“The Power of a Smile”), in which she discusses how to overcome difficult moments in life.
