Cristina Pereyra is Univision’s former News legal expert, and was the host of the TeleFutura Television Network courtroom reality program “Veredicto Final” (Final Verdict), and is the only real judge on Spanish-language television. Born in Tampa, Florida, Judge Pereyra earned her first law degree from the Universidad Anahuac. Enrolling in the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, she graduated two and a half years later and in 1988 began her legal career in this country as an assistant Public Defender in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit located in Miami, Florida. After an illustrious career as an assistant Public Defender, in 1999 Judge Pereyra became a Miami-Dade County Court Judge in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. She served in the Civil, Criminal and Traffic Divisions, as well as acting Circuit Judge in the Domestic Violence and Family Divisions. In 2005, she was appointed as a Circuit Court Judge by then Governor Jeb Bush and served in the Felony Division until June, 2007. Inspired by her grandfather, who was a prominent attorney in his native Cuba, Judge Pereyra not only brings an extensive knowledge of the law to her television courtroom, but also her own, rich Hispanic heritage and an awareness of how culture can play a role in rendering a just verdict. She hopes to not just resolve conflicts, but also open a window to viewers on how our legal system can function for them. Judge Cristina Pereyra currently resides in Miami.
